Standing on the site of the original Old Brewery, dating back to 1713, the Yard is a unique & iconic venue. The front of the building, once the Albert, is now a warm & welcoming space to meet. The washrooms on the lower floor are located in the original cellars, while the outside space is the original court yard where the casks were loaded onto horse-drawn drays.

Originally the New Theatre Royal, the building dates back to 1878. Much of the theatre interior was lost or hidden in the late 1980s when the building was used for other purposes. Wetherspoons purchased the building in 1999 and removed much of the interior partitioning to reveal parts of the theatre that had been long hidden.
